About
Sami Back grew up in a military family which heavily influenced her childhood and adolescence. During high school she was a member of NJROTC and Marching band and held leadership positions in both programs. Because of these programs she learned a lot about how to lead, as well as how to follow and be a supportive member of a group. During her time in middle school she discovered a love for art, mainly in painting and sewing. Throughout her adolescence she continued to develop her love for art and decided to pursue an education in costume design which led her to Otis College of Art and Design. Sami also decided to pursue a minor in contemporary clay art after discovering a passion for ceramics. During her foundation year of college, Sami fell in love with the Toy Design department and switched her intended major to Toy Design. While in the Toy Design program at Otis College of art and design Sami learned how to design for many categories of toy such as plush, preschool, fashion doll, action figure, and vehicle, as well as learning critical skills like sculpting 3d modeling, pattern drafting, digital illustration, and prototyping. While she enjoys designing for most categories of toys, Sami has a passion for incorporating diversity and representation into her design concepts, and especially loves fashion and large dolls, plush, and preschool toys. Sami also loves to explore educational features in toys and adding elements to enhance development for growing minds.
